HOW TO GET YO' MAN-according to the Book of Ruth...
1. ALL STORIES DON't HAVE A PERFECT BEGINNING!
Ruth 1:1-5 It doesn't matter how your story starts, but how it ends. Ruth wasn't born into a holy tribe, and the story starts with her husband dying. It sucks as an opening, but READ ON!
2.BE LOYAL TO YOUR FAMILY-
from the heart!
Ruth 1:11-18 After the death of their husbands, both daughters-in-law SAID they'd stay with their mother-in-law Naomi, but only Ruth came through on that. Learn loyalty to your family first. Perhaps then you'll have a loyal heart when a man finally comes your way.
3.CHOOSE TO BE WITH THE PEOPLE OF THE TRUE GOD, WHEREVER THEY ARE!
As we said in the beginning, Ruth wasn't born into a Christian home, but when she met the true God through her deceased husbands family, she refused to let that go. She claimed the true God as her own and was determined to be with His people.
4.WORK WHILE YOU WAIT
Ruth 2:1-7 Ruth wasn't at home mooching off of Naomi and pining away over her manlessness. She took initiative and volunteered to get some work done to support herself and her widowed mother-in-law.While you wait on your man, build your character by DOING SOME WORK. There are few things as attractive as a woman who is busy doing something worthwhile to benefit not only herself, but the people who depend on her.
5.RECOGNIZE WHEN GOD GIVES YOU FAVOR, AND ROLL WITH IT!
Ruth 2:10-17 Surely enough, Ruth's selfnessness made her pretty attractive to the right people. She got peculiar favor with Boaz because of it, and she recognized it as the blessing of God. She thanked God for His blessing, and she dwelt in that blessing. Boaz protected her from men who would have taken advantage of her.God will place certain people in your life to protect you from prying eyes and groping hands. When you notice God's hand of favor on your life, thank Him for what He's doing and ROLL WITH IT!
6. STICK AROUND THE LADIES FOR NOW, AND DON'T BE IN EVERY MAN'S FIELD!
Your conduct during your single life is important. Ruth stuck near to the ladies who were gleaning so her reputation would remain intact. Also, she didn't glean in any and every man's field, if you know what I mean. Be selective, and guard your reputation fiercely.
7.IT's OK TO LET OLDER LADIES GET INTO YOUR LOVE LIFE
Ruth allowed Naomi to guide her in snagging her man. Granted, her advice wasn't always the best, it was a start.
8.DON'T JUST GO FOR BRAWN AND GOOD LOOKS. GET A STABLE GUY!
Through Naomi's advice, Ruth set her eye on Boaz, who was a bit older. He wasn't as hot as all the young men who were out hot and sweaty in the fields reaping all day with their bulging muscles. I'm sure they were pretty hot, and it would've been easy for a single woman like Ruth to go for them, but she was a smart one! She went for Boaz, who was kind, respectable, AND OWNED THE FIELD!;)
9.POSITION YOURSELF TO BE DISCOVERED
Ruth3:1-9 Ruth made some pretty bold moves for a woman in her time. She went to her man and positioned herself. HOWEVER, NOTICE A VITAL POINT! She positioned herself but left it up to him to discover her. This is where we ladies make mistakes. Desperate times may require us to make some bold moves to literally position ourselves in a man's way, but HE MUST ALWAYS BE THE ONE TO DO THE DISCOVERING!!!You should never force a man to discover you!(trust me...it doesn't work out well for us in the end!)Just position yourself for success, and then WAIT!
10. STAY IN THE FAMILY
I know that sounds a little strange, but Ruth was especially hopeful in Boaz because he was a relative of her deceased husband, and was most likely to carry on the family legacy with her. We too, must keep in the family. THE FAMILY OF GOD, that is!We must go for guys who are most likely to carry on Christ's legacy with us. i.e DO NOT BE UNEQUALLY YOKED!WHAT FELLOWSHIP DOES LIGHT HAVE WITH DARKNESS?? ONLY GO FOR A CHRISTIAN GUY!!! PLEASE LADIES!PLEASE!!!
11. LET GOD DO THE REST
Turns out there was a guy, other than Boaz, who could have ended up marrying Ruth, but through events orchestrated by God, She snagged the man that she wanted. The one she had built a relationship with; the one whose character had been shown to her through God-ordained events. Best of all, out of her family line came JESUS!!! When God is at work, even the generations after you will be blessed!
In the end, only God can write our love stories. REST IN THAT!
