According to Your FAITH (part 1)
Reading: Matthew 9:28-30
After Jesus had entered the house, the blind men came to Him. “Do you believe that I am able to do this?” He asked. “Yes, Lord,” they answered. Then He touched their eyesand said, “According to your faith will it be done to you.” And their eyes were opened.
The more I research the topic of FAITH in the Bible, the more I realize that as individuals, we have very different experiences with God based on much faith is present in our lives. Specifically, some of us limit God's ability to show Himself to us due to how little faith we have in what He is willing and or able to do.
The account given in Matthew 9 tells us of two blind men who approached Jesus in expectation, apparently with assurance within themselves that He could help them. This is confirmed by their answer to Jesus when he asks them "Do you believe that I am able to do this?". What I find interesting is that Jesus informs them that He would respond to them "according to THEIR faith", not necessarily according to His power! This was a real mind blower for me, because it made me realize that God never gives us more than we can bear, physically, spiritually or emotionally. good or bad. We usually think of that in terms of the negative only, but what about if we consider that God will only give us the things for which we have faith? God has SOOOOOO much power to display in our lives, but we only access the amount of it that we have faith for!
Some of us don't believe that God wants intimate relationship with us; we only have faith to see Him as distant and impersonal, so that is what we get. Our relationship with God never goes further than our faith in that area. For others, we have little faith that God cares enough about us to intervene in every aspect of our lives (magnanimous or mundane) like helping us reach to work on time, or providing for our bills every month, or finding us a compatible life partner. The thing about faith is that it is an accurate reflection of how we view WHO GOD IS. The more we understand His character, and the more our perception of His personality and His intentions toward us is set straight, the more faith we are ABLE to have. Therefore we can only have as much faith as is proportional to how much we know GOD!
I'm really convicted about this faith thing because I feel like I have enough faith to ask God for certain things at times, but sometimes my faith runs out while I wait. Faith really does get tested, and needs to be strengthened. I want to work on strengthening my faith. I am a person that cannot accept less from God when I know that there is more to be had. It would plague me if I knew that I operating at a level 1 in faith when I could attain level 5, 6 or even 10. I think I'll be studying faith for a while because I want more FROM God, but more importantly, I want more OF GOD!
Examine your life for a moment. Do your life circumstances reflect your level of faith right now? I think that they do. Are you hearing God's voice clearly? Are you walking in assurance of His presence? Do you EXPECT Him to be present and active in your life? Be honest with yourself, because as Jesus Himself insinuated, it will be with you according to your faith!
